If you wish to use any sort of php functionality with nginx it is advised to use php-fpm. The following commands are how you install both nginx and php-fpm.
yum install -y nginx php-fpm
Turn nginx and php-fpm to start on boot:
chkconfig nginx on
chkconfig php-fpm on
